Nutrition and the Walk

Nutrition is important for all dogs, but for Great Danes with their enormous body mass, it is particularly important.  Under normal circumstances, we continue to follow the feeding advice we were given by the breeder of our Harlequin Great Dane, which includes a good quality all in one food for half the feed with the balance made up of raw minced chicken.  They all seem to thrive on this, but we knew it would not be right for them during the walk, as they would need much larger quantities, and who wants to handle raw meat on a regular basis in a caravan?

One of the problems that Danes are subject to is bloat, where gas fills the stomach and can make it rotate, thus twisting the bowel, often causing death, if treatment isn’t on hand immediately.  When Christine made contact via a friend and told us about Hill’s Science Plan /Performance Dog Food, it was an answer to a prayer, here was a food that would give all our dogs the extra energy they needed for their walks, but  without the extra bulk, thereby saving the stomach from overload.

Thanks to the Tebay, distributors of Hill’s who have provided our dogs with the food for this trip.

Guess what   -  they love it!!!!
